Since 1959-ish Lilly Pulitzer has made vibrant tropical printed designs that became a sensation through years. The Palm Beach socialite had opened a juice stand just off the island’s main shopping street to compliment her husband’s citrus groves. There was just one problem – Lilly needed to hide all of those pesky orange stains o her clothes, so instead of donning a drab apron she simply  asked her seamstress to make some sleeveless dresses in colorful fruit prints, and a fashion staple was born.

The big news this week?

Instagram has surpassed the daily users vs. twitter.  Across mobile phones in the US during August, Instagram received an average of 7.3 million daily visitors, while Twitter attracted 6.9 million users, a new report by ComScore said.  The same report says the average Instagram user spent 257 minutes accessing Instagram in August, compared to 169.9 minutes spent on Twitter.  What does that say? One word.  The holy grail of social media: ENGAGEMENT.

I for one am a huge fan of instagram.  I mean, what’s not to like?  As a bonus – I got some tips from good friend & photographer Cengiz Yar on camera and photography apps sure to make your Instagram photos even better.  Why does he like these photo sharing apps?  “The great thing about all these new photo apps for phones, is that unlike my dslr, I always have my phone with me. It’s not my go to for photos, but it’s easy to use and always with me.”

If you want to get more detail out of your editing an really get the most out of your phone photos, there isn’t a better app than SnapSeed. Point detail options, white balance, highlight/shadow, and great black and white filters make this my favorite editing tool right now.

Camera+ $1.99
It’s a great substitute for the built-in iPhone camera. It’s faster and has a bunch of great features and adjustable setting.

TiltShift Generator $0.99
This app can help push that good picture to a great picture. Pick a point and blur everything else simply by spreading or closing your fingers.

AutoStitch Panorama $1.99
I don’t use this that much, but it’s definitely my favorite photo app. Pull together all those great environments that you would never be able to capture with a single picture. (I’ve tried a few other panoramic apps and this is the best by far)

DipTic $1.99
Easily combined multiple photos in a variety of frame setting.
